I believe most of us love the thrill of victory and hope to avoid the agony of defeat. Uni-Pixel (UNXL) has been both a thrilling and an agonizing ride. We cannot declare victory nor defeat at this time but we can claim a nice chess move based on current results. GCM sold approximately two-thirds of its UNXL shares last summer (between $14-15/share) and most clients doubled to tripled their investment. I sold these shares because I lost confidence in management’s timeline to get the product to market. Additionally, we had a plan for the money raised from selling UNXL shares and that was buying RF Micro Devices (RFMD) below $5/share during August, 2013. I felt this was not only a safer investment but one with tremendous long-term potential. RFMD has doubled since last August, where UNXL has lost 50% of its value since that time. Good for us, this has boded very well in client accounts (thus far). UNXL still has shots on goal so – do not count them out!

Which reminds me – A man is not a financial plan. Women/significant other need to take control of their financial futures and make sure they have the training and skills to support themselves, even if they are married and currently not working. No one likes to imagine that bad things will happen to them or a loved one, but layoffs, illness, divorce, and death do happen. The bottom line is that there’s no excuse for not being a fully informed and involved partner in your financial life.
Its summer so we’re keeping this a short read. Enjoy great health and relaxation.
